It’s great to see someone staying true to himself, even in the world of entertainment, where actors and actresses too often move from one trend to another with so much ease we, as outsiders, often have to question who these people really are. But no Casey Affleck, who continues to be a stalwart supporter of the vegan cause (he’s vegan) and helping animals wherever he can.
The Boston native is continuing to promote his pet project, an article published in The Boston Herald reported:
Casey’s devotion to the family pets — especially Machine Gun — led him to become vegan, an animal rights activist and a vocal supporter of the Massachusetts Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act. And on April 23 the “Gone Baby Gone” star will be in Boston to personally lobby legislators and Gov. Deval Patrick to support the bill that would ban veal crates, gestation pens for pigs and overcrowded battery cages for hens.
“We don’t let people treat their pets this way, there’s no reason to let them treat farm animals this way,” Casey said. “I think there’s a moral obligation to stand up and say this is the wrong thing to do.”
The cages — which are already banned in Europe — keep farm animals confined in tiny spaces, unable to turn, socialize or move about.
“This is animal cruelty,” Affleck said. “I have the most irrational pride in Massachusetts and what it stood for throughout history. It’s my home. It’s where I grew up. I don’t want Massachusetts to be a place where this is done.”
Good for him to stick to his guns. It is inspiring to see good people in a world that is increasingly become antagonistic on too many levels. We’re all in this together, and that includes the animals. Thanks to Casey for his efforts.
